Flag football’s college popularity

College intramural sports are a major part of the college experience overall. As a current college student myself I can vouch for their current integration into the college culture. College intramural sports can range from wally ball to ultimate frisbee, or even to a game of hole ball. One of the top sports in the college realm is flag football and has been for many years. Every beginning of a new year of college marks another round of intramural sport sign ups. The lists for all of the other sports will fill over time, but none quite as quickly as the flag football sign ups. One reason for the popularity of flag football is the recent increase in women taking up the sport. In some schools flag football teams are even taking away students from the track and cross country teams. The reason? Well, the reason has much to do with more and more high schools recognizing the sport as a varsity sport. This recognition has garnered more followers as well as players. Here in college we have seen these high school players continuing to play the sport they love, but now in a different school. The spread and increase of the sport’s reputation have brought along welcomed changes. Changes including the number of options on where to play the game as well as how the game is being played. When it comes down to how popular the sport is it has much to do with how fun the game is to play. As it is with flag football the game is a intramural hallmark and plenty of fun for even the casual player. The sport has a perennial spot in the college sport world. As it is with other spin off sports the popularity of flag football will coincide with tackle football.
