AFTFL Commissioner George Higgins announced today that the AFTFL will officially change it's Screen Flag program from 7-ON-7 to 8-ON-8. All future AFTFL "FLAGBOWL" qualifiers will feature 8-ON-8 SCREEN FLAG. Explaining the changes, Higgins said "Screen Flag is a growing form of the sport that needs some rule consistancy across the country to eliminate obstacles to larger tournaments. It makes sense to expand the teams to 8-on-8 on a 40X80 yard field. 8-Man Ineligible Flag has used the 8-On-8 format on a 40X80 yard field since the early 1980's and there's still plenty of open field." Higgins added "today's younger players are gravitating towards less contact so we will see Screen Flag's participation continue to flourish through the coming years. It just makes sense to get the maximum amount of players  out on the field!"

12/12/04   @ Stillwell Pk, Syosset, NY / Princeton NJ

Over 60 teams competed this past weekend for the 8-MAN AND 9-MAN  INELIGIBLE AFTFL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. In the 8-Man A Division, 16 teams battled it out in the rain on Saturday. The Scarab Jewlers Ice Breakers, who took the number 3 seed coming into Sunday, held off tough teams like the re-vamped Changing Times, and past National Champion NY Devils( the Ice Breakers beat the Devils 23-10 in the championship), to become this years AFTFL National Champions. Jack Laprairie, took MVP honors and proved that after all this time he is STILL the best out there. More in depth game coverage is on the way!

In the B Division, it was anybody's tournament. There were 18 B teams, and at the start of the tournament, there was no clear favorite. Every team who came to the field had the same odds to take it home. Going into Sunday the Troy Raiders, looked like the team to beat with the #1 seed and dominating the day on Saturday.  They seemed to be coasting along on Sunday and on there way to yet another tournament championship. Then they bumped into the LIFFL's Babylon Brawlers. The Brawlers who came into Sunday with the lowest seed (8) and with the odds stacked high against them, went into every game like it was the championship. In the end the Babylon Brawlers were this years 8-MAN 2-MISSISSIPPI CHAMPIONS. To win the title they went toe to toe with one of Long Islands best teams, the OB Warriors and beat them by a high margin!! More in depth game coverage and MVP coverage from the babylon Brawlers is on the way!

The 'C' Division was stacked with 18 of the best 3 Mississippi teams in the country. Only 10 made it to Sunday with Hampton Tech leading the way with the #1 seed, and with Empire World Corp from Albany just behind them with the 2nd seed. It was almost certain that it would be Empire Vs Hampton in the championship. The Rebels from Suffolk thought different however. Led by coach Nick Ferrone, and the monster known as 'Tenes' on the line, the Rebels rolled through the competition on Sunday and in the last game of the day, beat the Capital District Champions, Empire World Corp, and got there NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Eric Foster (QB) took MVP honors for the Rebels as he led the way, during there great run. Scores for all the C games will be posted soon!
