The A.F.T.F.L. has always believed that the physical demands of football demand less games played than a "softball format" tournament. The A.F.T.F.L.'s form of "double elimination" has always been to bracket 4-6 teams per field, make sure everyone plays at least two(2) games on Saturday, eliminate those who lose twice, and bring the survivors back Sunday for a single- elimination "round robin" until we have a winner. On Sunday, opponents are seeded by their performance(W-L, then +/- points) from Saturday. The A.F.T.F.L. has always believed that Sunday becomes like an NFL play-off, you lose, you're done! The "softball" method of Double Elimination is different in that on Sunday, Double Elimination is still in effect. For example, let's that Team's A & B go 2-0 on Saturday, win their 1st two games on Sunday, and finally meet as the only two team left. Team A beats Team B. Then Team B beats Team A. Now a 3rd game becomes necessary for the title. The AFTFL believes that GAME 1 between the two teams results in the most accurate, safe conclusion. The teams are not over-exhausted and less prone to injury.
